Students are not required to take the group flight. Independent travelers will be eligible for a credit equal to the amount of the group flight fare, and will receive the credit in the form of a deduction from the total cost of their study abroad program. To request a flight credit, students must enter their confirmed independent flight itinerary into the London Personal Page.
Please note that we do not apply flight credits until a week or two prior to the start of the program. Benefits of booking a spot on the group flight Once you confirm a reservation on the group flight, Boston University will be billed directly by the travel agency, since the cost of the group flight is included in the program fee.
Also, all travel booked through Advantage Travel will be monitored by the travel agency on the day of departure, and they will be able to assist with any schedule changes, delays, or missed connections. The flight also allows you to travel with other students from the program.
If you book a seat on the group flight through Advantage Travel, you will be met at the airport and transported to the residence halls. This is one of the perks of booking through Advantage Travel compared to booking independently.
How to reserve a seat on the group flight Specific booking instructions and detailed group flight itineraries will be emailed directly to students in late January. Traveling after the semester end date and booking a different flight home If you wish to take a different flight home from the group flight, you may work with Advantage Travel on the itinerary.
Please note that additional costs and expenses will apply. Booking connecting flight to the departure city If you will be traveling from elsewhere prior to the group flight, Advantage Travel can also assist you with reserving a flight to the departure city. Opting to arrange your own travel If you prefer to travel independently from the group, you are welcome to do so.
Advantage Travel can assist you with reservations from a different airport or on different dates, or you can make a reservation completely on your own. Arrival Information If you book a seat on the group flight through Advantage Travel, you will be met at the airport and transported to the residence halls.
If you book your travel independently, you must make your own transportation arrangements to the residence halls. The London staff will provide information on transportation options, such as taxis, the Heathrow Express train, or the London Underground later in the spring semester.
Students who booked independently will not have access to the transportation services provided by BU London. Summer 1 Students The program arrival dates are May 19 from west coast and May 20 and the departure date is on June If you cannot check into the residence hall by noon on May 20, then you are encouraged to arrive on May You will be able to check into the residence hall on May 19 if you make prior arrangements with the London staff.
Housing will not be provided before May 19, nor can students stay in the residence halls on or after noon on June Summer 2 Students The program arrival date is July 1 arrive at residence hall by noon and the departure date is on August Students cannot stay in the residence halls on or after August Please note that BU London buildings cannot store luggage for students following the program end.
Any students who wish to store luggage beyond the program end date should consult the Visit London — Luggage Storage website to arrange for this independently.
